One of the ways you can get ready for the USMLE is to enroll in a class or program. Here are three things you should look for in a USMLE prep program.
- Customizability
There are many USMLE programs you can attend to prepare to sit your examination, but ideally, you want to find one or more programs that best fit your needs. The best options are ones that are relatively flexible. Their flexibility may be in terms of different types of multimedia resources, remote learning options, access to both group and one-on-one learning and multiple class times.
- Access To Resources
While books, practice tests and other study materials are available for independent exam preparation, you may also want to find a program that provides additional material. See whether the programs you’re interested in offer online practice questions and tests, question banks, flashcards and other resources. You should also look for programs that provide resources you’re specifically interested in. For example, if you’re interested in group study but don’t have anyone to study with, look for a program that provides opportunities to connect with peers to form study groups.
- Information about the Exam
You need to make sure the program you choose provides you with information on the examination process as well as study and preparation materials. Look for programs that will explain to you the significance of the exam and your scores. Make sure the instructors will be able to explain the scheduling process, what testing day will be like, whether or not you can retake the exam how breaks work and what the interface and exam space will look like.
The type of program you choose will depend on your needs and preferences. Think about your study style, what types of resources you think you’ll benefit most from and when you plan to sit your examination before you enroll.
